AJP announces second list of 50 candidates for Assam Assembly polls

Guwahati: The newly-formed Assam Jatiya Parishad on Sunday (March 7) introduced the second list of 50 candidates for the three-phased meeting polls, with its president Lurinjyoti Gogoi contesting from yet another constituency, Naharkatia.

The get together had on Friday launched the primary list of 18 candidates and fielded Gogoi from Duliajan.

Both the constituencies of the previous AASU basic secretary are in higher Assam and are going to polls within the first part.

AJP vice chairman Adeep Kumar Phukan stated the get together introduced names of 68 candidates for all three phases and is in talks with its alliance associate for choosing nominees in some extra seats.

The AJP has cast the alliance with the Raijor Dal of jailed anti-citizenship legislation activist Akhil Gogoi for the meeting elections desiring to oust the BJP-led ruling coalition from energy.

“We are united to defeat the BJP although there could also be pleasant contests in a number of seats,” Phukan stated.

AJP working president Pabindra Deka, who had stop the Asom Gana Parishad and resigned from the meeting, to hitch the get together, will contest from Pathacharkuchi and is pitted towards BJP state president Ranjeet Kumar Dass.

The AJP fielded former Assembly Speaker Pulakesh Barua from Barkhetry and Adeep Phukan from Gauhati (East).

Former Congress chief Dulu Ahmed will contest from Hajo as an AJP candidate.

The AJP, which was fashioned by the All Assam Students’ Union and the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) following the anti-CAA protests, will even contest in 5 seats – Patharkandi, Dholai, Lakhipur, Katigorah and Udarbond- within the Barak Valley.

The three-phased elections for the 126-member Assam meeting will likely be held on March 27, April 1 and April 6. Votes will likely be counted on May 2.
