The Union Government has pressed pause on setting any exports target for FY24 contemplating the volatility and weak point within the global financial system, which has been ravaged by the impression of the Russian battle and excessive inflation, impacting discretionary spending.

Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, on Sunday declined to set any exports target for the current year.
“It will not be proper to give FY24 exports target now and we do not want to give any absurd number. Due to the ongoing war, the economies of several countries have become weak and discretionary spending has come down.”
“So in the next five months, we will be taking delegations of different export sectors to several countries to understand the situation on the ground and then to set our exports target. We will be organising buyer-seller meets and organise exhibitions to push our exports,” the Minister mentioned.
In FY23, regardless of the adversarial situations, India had clocked report merchandise and repair exports of $770 billion. In the earlier two years, exports had been to the tune of $676 billion and $500 billion respectively, the Minister mentioned.
He mentioned in preparation for the “Amritkaal” in 2047, the federal government had set an export target of $2 trillion by the year 2030 and he inspired the exporters’ neighborhood to assist obtain this target.
Mr. Goyal was talking at an exports awards perform organised by the Gem and Jewellery Exports Promotion Council (GJEPC) in Mumbai.
Free commerce pacts
He mentioned the 2 free commerce agreements with the UAE and Australia had immensely helped the exporters’ neighborhood and the forthcoming ones would additionally improve the exports quantity from India.
