Amid Spike In Covid Case, Pune Schools And Colleges To Remain Shut Till March 14

Amid the increasing Covid scare in Maharashtra, the Pune administration has shut the schools and colleges. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to extend the closure of schools, colleges, and coaching classes till March 14.

“The PMC had declared the closure of schools, colleges, and coaching classes till February 28. However, there is no slowdown in the spread of infection so the decision has been taken to extend the closure till March 14,” said Mayor Murlidhar Mohol on Saturday. An official order to the effect will be issued soon.

Pune has also extended its night curfew till March 14, hence, No public movement will be allowed in the city between 11 pm and 6 am, except for essential services.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in terms of the pandemic in India.The state witnessed  8,623 new Covid cases being reported today along with 51 deaths. Till now, 52,092 people have died of the disease since the outbreak reached the state. Overall, it has registered 21,46,777 cases, of which 73,734 remain active now. 

As India is witnessing a rise in the number of Covid infections again Pune re-emerged as the city with the second-highest number of confirmed cases, overtaking Bengaluru, after a gap of nearly four months. 

According to the data released by the Health Ministry, Pune district now has over 4.06 lakh confirmed cases, while Bengaluru has more than 4.04 lakh. Delhi, with more than 6.38 lakh cases, quite far ahead. For the last four consecutive days, and on six occasions in the last eight days, Pune has reported more than 1,000 cases, the highest for any city in the country. Bengaluru and Delhi are these days, reporting cases in the lower hundreds.
