Amit Shah Cancels Two-Day West Bengal Visit Post Delhi Blast

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has cancelled his two-day visit to West Bengal following the minor IED blast in Delhi near the Israeli embassy on Friday. Earlier, Amit Shah was scheduled to address two rallies in West Bengal on Saturday and Sunday. He was supposed to participate in many more events in view of the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal. The assembly elections are to be held in West Bengal in April-May.

A blast had been reported near Delhi’s Abdul Kalam road on Friday evening. It is being reported that it was an IED based blast which occurred outside Jindal House, few metres away from Israel Embassy. While there are no reports of an injury as of yet, windscreens of several cars have reportedly been shattered. 

In the last Lok Sabha election, BJP performed brilliantly, winning 18 out of 42 seats in West Bengal. BJP has since then emerged as the main rival to the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is trying hard to oust the Trinamool Congress government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Senior BJP leaders and Union ministers are visiting the state continuously in this regard.

Amit Shah’s visit comes amid growing revolt within the ruling party, Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. It is noteworthy that many ministers and Trinamool Congress MLAs are speaking out against their party and the functioning of the state government.
