In a significant crackdown on child marriage in Assam, a 30-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years in jail by a particular courtroom in Hailakandi district. The man allegedly kidnapped after which forcibly married a 13-year-old girl.

Special decide Sanjay Hazarika sentenced the man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him underneath the POCSO Act, and a further 5 years underneath IPC Section 366 for kidnapping her and forcibly marrying her.

The accused kidnapped the girl from a spiritual occasion

The girl was rescued and he was arrested. He was granted bail after 5 months of arrest.
