An Australian mayor could sue OpenAI over ChatGPT’s false claims, marking first defamation case in opposition to the favored generative AI, ChatGPT.
A regional Australian mayor has threatened to sue OpenAI, the creator firm behind the extremely well-liked ChatGPT—if it fails to rectify false claims made by the generative AI about him serving time in jail for bribery. According to a current report by Reuters, Brian Hood, who was elected because the mayor of Hepburn Shire in November final 12 months, has expressed considerations about his fame after ChatGPT wrongly urged that he was concerned in a international bribery scandal.

Hood’s legal professionals have already despatched a “letter of concern” to OpenAI—asking them to appropriate the misreported data. However, OpenAI is but to answer Hood’s legal professionals.

James Naughton, a companion at Hood’s lawfirm Gordon Legal, stated, “It would potentially be a landmark moment in the sense that it’s applying this defamation law to a new area of artificial intelligence and publication in the IT space.” He added, “He’s an elected official, his reputation is central to his role.”
