BCCI considers revising pay structure to boost Test cricket participation amidst Kishan-Iyer saga

Amidst the continued pattern of gamers prioritising preparations for the Indian Premier League, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating revising the pay structure to boost Test cricket’s participation.

According to a report in Indian Express, the Indian Board is mulling to deliver a remuneration mannequin wherein gamers gamers who play all of the Test collection in a calendar 12 months will get an extra bonus aside from the annual retainer contract. It provides that the Indian board has determined to redraft the wage structure amidst the absence of Ishan Kishan from home cricket. 

“For example, if someone plays all Test series in a calendar year, he should be rewarded additionally, apart from the annual retainer contract. This is to ensure that players turn out for more red-ball cricket. This would be an additional perk for playing Test cricket,” a BCCI supply stated as quoted by the English each day.

The Indian gamers are divided into 4 annual retainership grades – A+, A, B and C and get Rs 7 Cr, Rs 5 Cr, Rs 3 Cr and Rs 1 Cr, respectively for the 4 grades. As per the retainership of 2022-23, Kishan was put in Grade C, whereas Shreyas Iyer, who can also be absent from the home enviornment, is slated in Grade B.

The Indian Board provides a per-match charge of Rs 15 lakh, Rs 6 lakh and Rs 3 lakh for Tests, ODIs and T20Is, respectively.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has already despatched a letter to the gamers and warned the gamers for prioritising IPL over home, saying non-participation within the latter will lead to “severe implications”.

Recently Indian captain Rohit Sharma additionally despatched an oblique message to the gamers saying the crew will desire choosing gamers who’ve “hunger” for Test cricket.
