The upgraded runway of the Bengaluru’s Kempegowda worldwide airport at Devanahalli turned operational for flights, stated its operator on Thursday. “Operations of all flights commenced on the upgraded parallel runway following the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s approval,” stated operator Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL).

The upgraded north airstrip affords the airport to function each runways even in low visibility and opposed climate circumstances.

As the third-largest within the nation after Mumbai and New Delhi, town airport is the primary in South India to have parallel runways with two extra taxiways.

The northern runway was shut for operations in June final yr to undertake its refurbishment, together with strengthening its floor with recent coat of asphalt.

The runway will proceed to be categorised as CAT-I with new installations like LED lighting.

“With CAT 3B-equipped south runway operational since December 6, 2019, the enhancements will offer flexibility to operate both runways,” stated the operator in a press release.

The enhanced tools allow plane to take-off from the north runway.
