Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen has a fractured bone in his proper wrist and will miss opening day, supervisor John Schneider stated Friday.

DUNEDIN, Fla.: Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen has a fractured bone in his proper wrist and will miss opening day, supervisor John Schneider stated Friday.

Jansen sustained the harm to the pisiform bone when he was hit by a 93.4 mph fastball from Pittsburgh’s Carmen Mlodzinski through the eighth inning of Wednesday’s spring coaching recreation.

“It’s a small bone between the hand and wrist,” Schneider stated.

Schneider stated Jansen is unlikely for the March 28 opener at Tampa Bay.

“He’ll have to catch and ramp back up and hit,” Schneider stated. “Hopefully the first couple weeks of the season he’ll be back.”

Alejandro Kirk is prone to get a bulk of the time at catcher whereas Jansen is out.

The 28-12 months-previous Jansen hit .228 with 17 homers and 53 RBIs in 83 video games final season. He was sidelined between May 24 and June 13 by a strained left groin, and his season ended with a damaged proper center finger sustained Sept. 1 when hit by a foul ball throughout a recreation in opposition to Colorado.

Jansen agreed to a $5.2 million, one-12 months contract that prevented arbitration. He is eligible totally free company after this 12 months’s World Series.
