A large earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter Scale hit Sonitpur space of Assam immediately at round 7:51 AM, mentioned National Center for Seismology.
As per the early inputs, the primary earthquake was centred 43 km west of Tezpur in Assam. EMSC mentioned that the quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles).
Following the primary huge earthquake, two 4.3 and 4.4 aftershocks happened with one at round 7:55 am and one other a couple of minutes after that. The earthquake originated in Assam and tremors had been felt in North Bengal, Meghalaya and different components of the Northeast.

This is the second such incident inside a month. Earlier on April 5, earthquake tremors felt in components of Assam, Bihar and West Bengal. National Center for Seismology had reported that earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale occurred close to the Sikkim-Nepal border
