Leicester City supervisor Brendan Rodgers mentioned fatigue amid a good fixture schedule might have performed an element in their lack of ability to push for victory over 10-man Southampton in Friday’s Premier League assembly which ended 1-1.

Leicester wanted a 68th-minute Jonny Evans header to cancel out James Ward-Prowse’s penalty and safe a degree after defender Jannik Vestergaard was proven a pink card early on.

The outcome left third-placed Leicester with 63 factors from 34 matches, eight factors above fifth-placed West Ham United who play on Monday.

“We’re clearly disenchanted with the outcome contemplating the circumstances of the sport,” Rodgers, whose side had thrashed 10-man Southampton 9-0 in the corresponding fixture last season, told reporters.

“We’re normally very good in those situations (against 10 men) but I didn’t think we were fast enough in the game and we didn’t play with the intensity we wanted to.

“The guys have given everything. It was the fourth game in 13 days so maybe that had something to do with it but no excuse, we have to give credit to Southampton, they made it incredibly difficult. We hope the point proves important for us.”

Midfielder James Maddison rued the dropped factors and mentioned something might occur in the race to safe a top-four spot.

“There’s a lot soccer to be performed and a lot to occur,” Maddison told Sky Sports. “We just have to win and see where we are after 38 matches.”
