Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation has issued summon to Abhishek Banerjee’s sister-in-law Maneka Gambhir in the alleged coal scam case. On Sunday, CBI summoned the TMC MP’s wife Rujira Narula and asked her to join the investigation in the same case today.

A CBI team is likely to visit Maneka’s house on Monday.

The TMC heavyweight Abhishek Banerjee reacted after CBI summoned his wife in the coal scam case. Banerjee took to Twitter and wrote, “At 2pm today, the CBI served a notice in the name of my wife. We have full faith in the law of the land. However, if they think they can use these ploys to intimidate us, they are mistaken. We are not the ones who would ever be cowed down.”

A CBI source said that some suspicious bank transactions related to the coal scam are related to Abhishek’s wife Rujira. That is why the CBI team wants to question Abhishek’s wife Rujira. However, reports suggest that CBI did not find anybody in the house.

This is the first time that the CBI has landed at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in the coal smuggling case. The central investigating agency earlier on Friday raided 13 locations in four districts in connection with the coal theft case.

The probe is going on in full swing months before the West Bengal Assembly elections. It is to be noted that Abhishek Banerjee is one of the most discussed politicians considering the upcoming Bengal assembly elections. BJP has been alleging Mamata Banerjee of dynasty politics and has been claiming that didi is pitching her nephew Abhishek Banerjee as the next West Bengal Chief Minister.

The CBI had registered an FIR in November last year against the alleged kingpin of the pilferage racket Manjhi alias Lala, Eastern Coalfield Ltd General Managers Amit Kumar Dhar and others.

It is alleged that accused Manjhi Lala is involved in the illegal mining and theft of coal from leasehold mines of ECL in Kunustoria and Kajora areas, the sources said.
