In the official letter shared by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity), the Centre famous that Twitter has not knowledgeable concerning the particulars of the Chief Compliance Officer as required below the Rules. 

The letter was addressed to Jim Baker, who was appointed by Twitter in 2020 as deputy common counsel. 

“Further, Resident Grievance Officer and Nodal Contact Person nominated by you is not an employee of Twitter Inc. in India as prescribed in the Rules. The office address of Twitter Inc. as mentioned by you is that of a law firm in India, which is also not as per the Rules,” the letter added. 

The IT ministry additionally famous that the new IT rules for social media platforms got here into impact on May 26, 2021. “It has been more than a week but Twitter has refused to comply with the provisions of these rules,” the letter learn. 

The Centre additionally gave a warning to Twitter, saying that non-compliance will lead to unintended penalties together with Twitter shedding exemption from legal responsibility below part 79 of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000.
