Centre orders free oxygen movement between states, restricts supply for industrial purposes

New Delhi: Amid the raging shortage of oxygen in hospitals throughout numerous states within the nation, the Centre has issued contemporary orders directing free movement of automobiles transporting oxygen between states.

The order comes because the demand for medical oxygen has risen sharply in latest days as a result of second wave of COVID-19 pandemic that’s spreading like wildfire throughout the nation.

“No restriction shall be imposed on the movement of Medical Oxygen between the state and transport authorities shall be instructed to accordingly allow free inter-state movement of oxygen-carrying vehicles,” an order by the Ministry of Home Affairs mentioned.

“There shall be free movement of oxygen-carrying vehicles into the cities, without any restrictions of timings,” the assertion added.

The MHA additionally barred the supply of oxygen for industrial purposes for the time being to make sure that the demand of the hospitals is met.

“Supply for industrial purposes, except those exempted by the government, is prohibited with effect from April 22 till further orders,” the order acknowledged.

The authorities additional directed that oxygen producers and suppliers shouldn’t restrict their provides to the state or union territory wherein they’re situated.

The MHA has requested the district administration throughout states to make sure the implementation of the orders.
