The Centre has rushed high-level multi-disciplinary public health teams to Maharashtra and Punjab in view of the rise in variety of each day COVID-19 cases being reported by these states.

The teams are being deployed to help State Health Departments in coronavirus surveillance, management and containment measures, the Union health ministry stated.

The high-level workforce to Maharashtra will likely be led by P Ravindran, Sr CMO, Disaster Management Cell, MOHFW. While the general public health workforce to Punjab will likely be led by S Okay Singh, Director, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi, it stated.

The teams will go to the (COVID-19) hotspot areas in the states and verify causes for the surge in cases, the ministry stated. According to the ministry information, there are 6,661 lively coronavirus cases in Punjab and 90,055 cases in Maharashtra.

They may also transient chief secretary/secretary (health) on their observations and remedial measures to be undertaken by the respective state health authorities.

The Union authorities has been main the battle in opposition to COVID-19 pandemic with a ‘Whole of Government’ and ‘Whole of Society’ method beneath the umbrella technique of ‘Cooperative Federalism’, the ministry stated.

As ongoing efforts to strengthen the initiatives of varied state and Union territory (UT) governments for COVID administration, the federal government has been deputing central teams from time to time to go to numerous states/UTs.

These teams work together with the state and UT authorities and get a first-hand understanding of the challenges and points being confronted by them in order to strengthen their ongoing actions and take away bottlenecks, if any.

The reviews of central teams are shared with the states for additional observe up motion, it added.
