The Chamundeshwari constituency in Mysuru district is set to witness an attention-grabbing tussle with the Congress releasing its second checklist of 42 candidates on Thursday. The social gathering has fielded Mavinahalli Siddegowda to tackle Janata Dal (Secular) chief G.T. Deve Gowda, who’s in search of a re-election.

Incidentally, GTD — as G.T. Deve Gowda known as — had trounced former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah from Chamundeshwari by almost 36,000 votes within the 2018 elections and had emerged as a large killer.

Though on paper it’s a contest between GTD and Siddegowda, in actuality, it’s perceived to be extra of a private battle between GTD and Siddaramaiah, who’s keen to avenge his 2018 defeat, quite than the Congress taking up the JD(S).

Though the BJP is but to announce its candidates, as far as Chamundeshwari section is anxious it’s reckoned to be a straight struggle between the Congress and the JD(S).

Aide to opponent

Congress leaders have sidelined about 13 different aspirants together with a few Siddaramaiah-loyalists like Marigowda, and as a substitute fielded Mavinahalli Siddegowda who was a shut aide of GTD until just lately.

Siddegowda who has pockets of power in Yelwal and Jayapura was keenly observing GTD’s political transfer until two months in the past as the latter was seen flirting with the BJP, solely to retract his stance and subsequently lean in direction of the Congress.

Siddegowda had hoped that the exit of GTD from JD(S) would clear the trail for him to stake claims for the coveted B kind and contest the elections.

But enter former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and different high brass of the JD(S), who absolutely placated Mr. GTD. A dinner assembly was all it took for GTD to make an emotional pitch to announce that he was ‘’ceaselessly indebted’’ to the previous PM who had personally visited his home and dined with him.

Mr. GTD was not solely assured of a seat from Chamundeshwari however had additionally bargained for a ticket for his son Harish Gowda, to safe his political future in his fiefdom of Hunsur.

A disillusioned Siddegowda realised that the trail for his political progress was now closed within the JD(S) and therefore joined the Congress in a public assembly attended by Siddaramaiah and others final month. Siddegowda had hobnobbed with the Congress for someday earlier than coming into the JD(S) and had been the director of MYMUL earlier.

Incidentally, Mr. Siddaramaiah — who continues to be smarting beneath the humiliating defeat inflicted by GTD in 2018 — had personally welcomed Siddegowda and others to the Congress fold. In the general public assembly, the previous CM had turned emotional and referred to as for ‘’trouncing’’ the JD(S) within the ensuing elections.

That Mr. Siddaramaiah has chosen GTD’s shut aide for the electoral battle underlines the extraordinary and bitter political rivalry that exists between the 2, and it will come into full play through the campaigning and the polls to be held on May 10.
