New Delhi: The Supreme Court dominated on Thursday that the President will appoint the Chief Election Commissioner and election commissioners on the advice of a committee consisting of the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition within the Lok Sabha, and the Chief Justice of India. A five-judge structure bench headed by Justice KM Joseph, in a unanimous verdict, held that this norm will proceed to carry good until a regulation on the problem is made by Parliament.
The apex court docket stated if the chief of opposition within the Lok Sabha shouldn’t be there, then chief of the only largest opposition celebration will likely be within the committee to nominate the Chief Election Commissioner and elections commissioners. The bench delivered its verdict on a batch of pleas searching for a collegium-like system for the appointment of election commissioners and the Chief Election Commissioner.
