At least 4 persons are stated to be lacking following the cloudburst incident in Dehradun’s Chakrata on Wednesday, information company ANI reported. The State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) personnel have been pressed into the rescue and aid operation.
The climate division has issued a purple alert for heavy rains for the subsequent 24 hours in Uttarakhand. The cloudburst incident occurred at Birnad beneath the bounds of Chakrata early in the morning.
Meanwhile, the climate division has issued a ‘Red alert’ for heavy rains in Uttarakhand for the subsequent 24 hours. On Wednesday, mild to average rainfall lashed many elements of the state.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is more likely to happen at remoted locations in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Almora, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh on May 20,” Rohit Thapliyal, senior scientist at Met centre, Dehradun, stated.
The state has to this point reported three incidents of cloudbursts in May. Last week, a cloudburst incident happened in the Kainchi Dham space of Tehri district. On May 5, one other incident of cloudburst was reported in Chamoli.
