A group of Congress leaders known as G-23 who once even wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi over Party’s leadership, have once again dared the party raising internal issues.
In the first-ever show of strength, the 23 dissenting Congress member held an event in Jammu on Saturday to launch a nationwide campaign to “save the idea of India”.
While addressing the ‘Shanti Sammelan earlier today, the group of senior leaders including Congress veterans like Ghulam Nabi Azad, Kapil Sibal, Manish Tewari, Anand Sharma, Bhupinder Hooda, Raj Babbar among others said that the Congress party was getting weaker across the country while they have seen the party stronger in the past.
Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad asserted that the grand-old party respect all religions, people and castes. “Be it Jammu or Kashmir or Ladakh, we respect all religions, people and castes. We equally respect everyone, that is our strength and we will continue with this,” Congress veteran who recently retired from Parliament after four decades said.
Joining the event, Raj Babbar said “People say we are a part of G-23; for me, it’s Gandhi 23. With the belief, resolve and thinking of Mahatma Gandhi, this nation’s law and Constitution was formed. Congress is standing strongly to take these forward. ‘G-23’ want Congress to be strong.”
It is pertinent to mention that the G23 leaders last year in August wrote a letter to interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi expressing their discontent over the leadership in the party. The leaders urged Gandhi to bring immediate reforms, including organisational elections.
