Congress leader urges PM Modi to announce cash transfer of Rs 6,000 per month to needy amid lockdown.

Congress leader within the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday to announce direct cash transfer of Rs 6,000 per month to the poor and needy to deal with the lockdown.

In a letter to the prime minister, Chowdhury highlighted the hardship and struggling being confronted by the poor, day by day wagers and the marginalised sections of the society due to the lockdown imposed in varied states.

“The central authorities ought to resort to direct cash transfer of Rs 6,000 per month within the financial institution accounts of all of the eligible poor individuals of the states beneath lockdown, together with the state of West Bengal.

“This will not only mitigate the sufferings of the millions of poor but is good economics as well because it will have a multiplier effect on the economy,” he stated.

The Congress leader stated in view of the continued pandemic and the lockdowns, such individuals have been rendered unemployed, leading to them not having the ability to present for and feed their households.

“Accordingly, such people are in a deplorable condition and are feeling abandoned, completely left-out and hopeless,” he stated.

Chowdhury stated Congress president Sonia Gandhi has instructed that the Centre ought to present free foodgrains to the needy and provides Rs 6,000 per month to all of the jobless individuals.

The Congress has been demanding a provision of direct cash to the poor since a nationwide lockdown was first imposed in March final 12 months after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
