Convene GST Council meeting at the earliest, Amit Mitra urges FM

The GST Council ought to meet at the earliest to debate methods to regulate frauds and simplify the laws protecting in thoughts the Micro, Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (MSMES), mentioned Amit Mitra, Principal Chief Advisor to the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

In a letter to the Union Finance Minister, Mr. Mitra mentioned in line with the Central authorities, ₹ 1.15 lakh crore of fraud had been detected from GST invoices between 2018-19 and 2022-23.

Of the 69,426 GST identification numbers verified throughout the final two months, 30% had been discovered to be non-existent. The quantity of GST evasion detected throughout the final two months was ₹19,638 crore.
Further, since the introduction of GST, 770 notifications and 191 circulars had been issued, 129 CGST Rules and 75 sections of CGST Act had been amended, and charges of 400 gadgets and 100 providers modified. Many MSMEs that registered with the GST had been now contemplating deregistering.

The Finance Minister ought to convene a meeting of the GST Council to concentrate on these two points, he mentioned.
