COVID-19: Delhi govt likely to extend lockdown by another week

The Delhi authorities is likely to extend the continuing lockdown by another week, though the Covid state of affairs is bettering within the metropolis with much less variety of circumstances and declining positivity charge up to now few days, official sources stated on Saturday. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had first imposed a lockdown on April 19 which was later prolonged a number of occasions, lastly on May 16.

In the final 24 hours, round 2,200 circumstances have been reported within the metropolis and the positivity charge too declined to 3.5 per cent, Kejriwal stated in a web based briefing earlier within the day.

“But this does not mean the threat of coronavirus has been averted. We have to take all the steps to safeguard against coronavirus,” he stated.

The chief minister had stated on Friday that he would have a dialogue with the Lt governor and share the choice taken within the assembly, when requested by reporters about any rest in lockdown in view of the bettering state of affairs.

“The ongoing second wave has been very fatal and there are little chances that lockdown will be relaxed. It is highly likely that another weeklong extension will be announced by the government,” the sources stated.

Community platform LocalCircles carried out a survey by which 68 per cent respondents from Delhi favoured a weeklong extension of the lockdown, stated founding father of LocalCircles Sachin Tapadia.

The proportion of respondents favouring lockdown extension was 85 per cent within the final two weeks, he stated.

Brijesh Goyal, the chairman of Chamber of Trade and Industry(CTI), stated the opinion of merchants was divided over extension of the lockdown as revealed in a survey carried out by it.

“Fifty per cent traders of Delhi are in favour of extending the lockdown for another one week and the remaining 50 per cent supported opening the city,” he stated.

Goyal stated the survey additionally revealed that 85 per cent of manufacturing facility homeowners have been in favour of opening up all varieties of industrial actions shut due to the lockdown.
