COVID-19: Punjab extends night curfew timings by two hours from 6 pm to 5 am

Chandigarh: The Punjab authorities has ordered the closure of retailers by 5 pm and prolonged the night curfew by two hours in an effort to curb the unfold of the coronavirus. The resolution was taken after a cupboard assembly on Monday.

Confirming the event on Twitter, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh wrote: “Due to steady & speedy rise of COVID-19 circumstances in Punjab, Cabinet at present has determined to impose day by day lockdown from 6 PM to 5 AM and weekend lockdown from Friday 6 PM to Monday 5 AM. Urge you all to keep at house & step out provided that completely needed. Seek your full cooperation.”

Meanwhile, Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar instructed mediapersons, “All shops will remain open till 5 pm.” He stated the night curfew will now be imposed from 6 pm within the state. Presently, the curfew restrictions stay in place from 8 pm to 5 am day by day. 

On April 19, a stricter measure was introduced together with the extension of night curfew by an hour and closure of public areas like bars, cinema halls, gyms, spas, teaching centres and sports activities complexes within the wake of the worrying surge in COVID-19 circumstances. 

The new restrictions will come into drive from Tuesday through which curfew timing will now begin from 8 pm and final until 5 am, as an alternative of the sooner 9 pm to 5 am.
