Cyclone Tauktae: NDRF doubles number of teams to 100

The National Disaster Response Force has elevated from 53 to 100 the number of teams earmarked to undertake aid and rescue measures within the wake of impending Cyclone Tauktae, a senior officer mentioned on Saturday. The power’s Director-General, S N Pradhan, mentioned in a tweet that these teams are being mobilised for deployment within the coastal areas of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Goa and Maharashtra.

The deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams has been “upped” as per new inputs offered by the India Meteorological Department, Pradhan mentioned.

Out of the 100 teams, the director normal mentioned 42 are being pre-deployed or stationed on the bottom in six states whereas 26 are on stand-by.

Thirty-two teams are on backup and may be airlifted upon requirement, Pradhan mentioned.
