New Delhi: Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has earned a prestigious nod at the 2025 International Emmy Awards, securing a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor for his role in Netflix’s acclaimed film Amar Singh Chamkila.

Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the biopic showcases the turbulent yet inspiring life of the legendary Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila, who became a voice of rebellion in the 1980s with songs that candidly addressed love, social struggles, and desire. His soaring career was brutally cut short when he and his wife Amarjot Kaur were assassinated in 1988.

In the film, Dosanjh embodies Chamkila with striking realism, a performance hailed for its depth and emotional resonance. Parineeti Chopra plays Amarjot, completing the on-screen duo that captured the hearts of audiences.

The actor-singer now finds himself in global competition, with fellow nominees including:

David Mitchell for Ludwig

Oriol Pla for Yo, Adicto (I, Addict)

Diego Vasquez for One Hundred Years of Solitude

India’s presence at the International Emmys has been steadily growing. In 2020, Netflix’s Delhi Crime won Best Drama Series, followed by comedian Vir Das’s Emmy victory in 2021 for his special Vir Das: For India. Dosanjh’s nomination adds to this legacy, spotlighting Indian storytelling and performances on the world stage.

Amar Singh Chamkila premiered globally on April 12, 2024, and has since been praised for its powerful storytelling and Dosanjh’s transformative portrayal of the slain folk icon.
