DNA Exclusive: Analysis Of Kashmir Village’s Unique ‘Gold For Plastic’ Campaign


Srinagar: A far-flung village known as Sadiwara in South Kashmir’s Anantnag District has began a singular mission for saving the surroundings. The village head launched the “Give Plastic and Take Gold” marketing campaign. According to the plan, if somebody donates 20 quintals of plastic waste, the Panchayat will reward him with a gold coin. Everybody within the Kashmir Valley seems as much as Farooq Ahmad Ganai, a lawyer by commerce and sarpanch of the village of Sadiwara. After 15 days of the marketing campaign’s launch, your entire city was deemed plastic-free. Advocate Farooq Ahmad Ganai stated, “I started a slogan in my village to give polythene in return for a reward. I took the initiative to clean the rivers and streams. Now everyone in the village helped us to clear the sites.”

Last month Deputy Commissioner Anantnag introduced this village plastic free. The gold that we’re giving is from the plastic we promote after accumulating.

The water streams flowing by way of the village have been utterly cleaned and all of the plastic that had choked these streams has been taken out. 

The Village which had heaps of plastic thrown on the roads is now utterly clear and all of the plastic that’s collected is handed over to the Panchayat members. This village is setting an instance for all different villages and the federal government can also be making an attempt to copy the identical concept in each village of the Union territory.
