DRDO conducts two successful flights tests of Very Short-Range Air Defence System – India TV

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out two successful flight tests of Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missile on February 28 and 29 from a floor based mostly moveable launcher off the coast of Odisha from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, officers stated on Thursday. These tests had been carried out towards excessive velocity unmanned aerial targets beneath completely different interception situation.

“During all the test flights, the targets were intercepted and destroyed by the missiles, meeting the mission objectives,” the officers stated.

What is VSHORADS?

VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defence System (MANPAD) designed and developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in collaboration with different DRDO laboratories and Indian Industry Partners.

VSHORADAS missile incorporates many novel applied sciences together with miniaturised Reaction Control System (RCS) and built-in avionics which have been efficiently confirmed throughout the tests.

According to the officers, the missile is propelled by a twin thrust stable motor and meant for neutralising low altitude aerial threats at brief ranges. The design of the missile together with launcher has been extremely optimised to make sure straightforward portability.

“The flight test was witnessed by official of the Indian Army, senior Scientists from various DRDO laboratories and Industry Partner,” the officers stated.
