BJP chief Suvendu Adhikary throughout an election marketing campaign rally for the Assembly polls, at Nishigunj in Cooch Behar district.
The Election Commission on Thursday issued a notice to Suvendu Adhikari, the BJP candidate from Nandigram in West Bengal, for alleged communal overtones in his speech made final month. He has been requested to reply to the notice inside 24 hours.
The notice mentioned the ballot panel obtained a grievance from Kavita Krishnan of CPI-ML Central Committee in which it was alleged that on March 29 Adhikari delivered a “hate speech” in Nandigram whereas addressing a public assembly.
The EC referred to two provisions of the Model Code of Conduct which state that criticism of different political events, when made, shall be confined to their insurance policies and programmes, previous document and work. Criticism of different events or their staff primarily based on unverified allegations or distortion shall be averted.

Another provision states that there shall be no enchantment to caste or communal emotions for securing votes. The notice mentioned the EC has been discovered to be in violation of sure clauses of the mannequin code.
Adhikari is pitted in opposition to chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram.
