Enforcement Directorate raids Punjab MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira in money-laundering case

The ED raided the premises of Punjab MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira and some others on Tuesday in reference to a money-laundering case linked to narcotics trafficking and the creation of an alleged faux passport, officers stated. They stated the searches are being carried out at Khaira’s residence in Chandigarh, 5 different places in Haryana and Punjab and two locations in Delhi.

Khaira (56) is a legislator of the Punjab Ekta Party, which he based in 2019. He is an MLA from Bholath in Kapurthala district. Khaira was elected to the state Assembly in 2017 on an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket.

Sources in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) stated the motion is being carried out towards the Punjab lawmaker and others underneath provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and is geared toward gathering extra proof to take ahead the probe.

The investigation, underneath money-laundering expenses, is expounded to alleged medicine trafficking and a faux passport case, they stated. A couple of accused, who’re being investigated in the case, are lodged in jail, the sources stated.
