The EU is popping extra closely to BioNTech/Pfizer to make up for suspended Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses and for longer-term wants to battle the mutating coronavirus, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen stated Wednesday.
BioNTech/Pfizer is bringing ahead supply of fifty million doses to the second quarter, beginning this month, and negotiations are below means with it to provide 1.8 billion doses of a second-generation of its mRNA vaccine to fight variants, she stated in a televised assertion.
“The European Commission, in agreement with the leaders of many (EU) countries, has decided that the contracts with the companies that produce (viral vector) vaccines that are valid for the current year will not be renewed at their expiry,” the newspaper reported.
It added that Brussels would quite deal with COVID-19 vaccines utilizing messenger RNA (mRNA) expertise, akin to Pfizer’s and Moderna’s.
A spokesman for the EU Commission stated it was conserving all choices open to be ready for the subsequent phases of the pandemic, for 2022 and past.
