Walmart-owned e-commerce marketplace Flipkart will deploy more than 25,000 electric vehicles (EVs) by the year 2030 for facilitating deliveries of online orders, following its commitment to fast-track their adoption in the country. For the same initiative, Flipkart has partnered with leading electric vehicle manufacturers including Hero Electric, Mahindra Electric, as well as Piaggio for the specific vehicles to be deployed for its first and last-mile delivery fleet across the country. The move comes after Amazon India tied up with Mahindra Electric to power its online deliveries.
Flipkart has already started deploying two-wheeler and three-wheeler electric vehicles in multiple locations for delivery across the country, including in Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati and Pune. Apart from transitioning to electric vehicles across its logistics fleet, it will help in setting up charging infrastructure around the company’s delivery hubs and offices.
