Fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi denied bail by Dominica court

New Delhi: Fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi, who’s lodged in Dominica jail, has been denied bail by the High Court there, native media reported. 

The Dominica court denied him bail on the grounds that he’s a ‘flight threat’. Further, the excessive court stated he didn’t have any ties with Dominica and the court couldn’t impose any situations which is able to cease him from leaving the nation, information outlet Antigua Newsroom stated, as per PTI. 

Choksi has been lodged in Dominica jail for “illegal entry”. The fugitive businessman was discovered within the island nation after he mysteriously disappeared from Antigua and Barbuda the place he has been residing since 2018. 

Meanwhile, Choksi’s authorized group has approached the Metropolitan Police in London below the “universal jurisdiction” provision to research the alleged kidnapping of the businessman from Antigua and Barbuda to Dominica. 

Michael Polak, a part of the authorized group representing Choksi, knowledgeable that they’ve filed a criticism with the War Crimes Unit of UK`s Metropolitan Police on the bottom that Choksi was tortured. 

Earlier, Choksi’s legal professionals had alleged that their consumer was kidnapped from Jolly Harbour in Antigua. Wayne Marsh, Choksi’s lawyer in Dominica, claimed that his consumer was ‘severely beaten’ and ‘kidnapped’ and brought to Dominica. 

Choksi in his criticism with the Commissioner of police of Antigua and Barbuda has listed Barbara Jarabica together with others to have been concerned in his alleged kidnapping. Jarabica has denied all of the allegations and said that she was not concerned in a relationship with the businessman. 

Mehul Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi are wished for allegedly siphoning Rs 13,500 crore of public cash from the state-run Punjab National Bank utilizing letters of enterprise.
