The Anantapur police on Friday nabbed a hawala cash extortion gang from Kerala and recovered ₹1.89 crore, whereas arresting 4 members of the gang in Gooty.
Superintendent of Police Fakeerappa Kaginelli at a press convention introduced the cash seized from the hawala extortion gang members in a painstaking investigation that was named ‘Operation Ananta’.
The police centered on the Sreedharan gang, which was reportedly looting cash from folks transporting hawala cash from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and arrested 4 members, seized two vehicles, 5 mobiles, and 13 car quantity plates close to GATES College in Gooty.
The arrested gang members have been recognized as Kolapurambil Abu Nishad, 40, Jackson Phillip, 29, Kannan Riagu, 25, and Othavath Shamim, 38, all hailing from Kerala.
Anantapur police cooperated with Karnataka and Tamil Nadu police to extensively monitor CCTV footage inside a radius of 400 km and saved a tab on the actions of automobiles at 40 toll plazas earlier than nabbing the gang members.
Twenty-five police groups (100 personnel) travelled throughout 5 States and picked up data from Anantapur police. The cash is being despatched to the Income Tax Department which is able to examine the supply of the cash.
Key members of the gang are but to be nabbed, the SP mentioned, including that an investigation is on.
