Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Monday urged Serum Institute of India Chief Executive Officer Adar Poonawalla to give priority to the state in offering its anti-coronavirus vaccine as the federal government was prepared to buy doses from the Pune-based firm.

He mentioned the Maharashtra authorities was even prepared to buy Russian COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V.

Talking to the media right here, Tope mentioned since Poonawalla hails from Pune, he ought to take into consideration Maharashtra and provides priority to his residence state in allocating Covishield, the anti-coronavirus vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute of India (SII).

He mentioned Serum Institute has declared it might present vaccine doses solely in July and August.
