Government directs e-commerce firms to remove Bournvita and other drinks from ‘health drinks’ category

The authorities has requested all of the e-commerce firms to remove drinks and drinks, together with Bournvita, from the well being drinks category from their portals.

“National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), a statutory body constituted under section (3) of the Commission of Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act 2005 after its inquiry under Section 14 of CRPC Act 2005 concluded that there is no ‘health drink’ defined under FSS Act 2006, rules and regulations submitted by FSSAI and Mondelez India Food Pvt Ltd,” the Commerce and Industry Ministry mentioned in an advisory to all e-commerce firms.

The order is dated April 10, 2024.

It mentioned that each one e-commerce firms or portals are suggested to remove drinks and drinks, together with Bournvita, from the category of well being drinks from their platforms or websites.

On April 2, meals security requirements regulator FSSAI directed all e-commerce meals enterprise operators (FBOs) to guarantee acceptable categorisation of meals merchandise being bought on their web sites.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has famous that cases of meals merchandise licensed below ‘Proprietary Food’ with the closest category Dairy-Based Beverage Mix or Cereal-Based Beverage Mix or Malt-Based Beverage being bought on e-commerce web sites below the category Health Drink, Energy Drink, and so forth, it added.
