The Union Commerce Ministry has communicated this resolution to APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority). APEDA has been instructed to register solely these contracts whose worth is $950 per tonne and above. APEDA promote the export of agricultural commodities and processed meals merchandise.

He urged the Centre to rationalise the $1,200 per tonne minimal export worth on basmati rice. It is as a result of this worth is adversely impacting the shipments.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal talked about this challenge with reporters on October 6. He mentioned, “We are very seriously looking at it. I have had many meetings with rice exporter associations in India. We have compiled the data of basmati rice exports to different parts of the world and different varieties of basmati rice.”
