Sectarian violence broke out in the northeastern state on May 3 when individuals from the Meitei neighborhood and the Kuki tribe clashed with one another over the Meiteis’ demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) standing, resulting in the dying of at the least 54 individuals.
In a press release, the organisation alleged that every one homes belonging to Meitis in the neighborhood settlement space in Churachandpur have been burned down by “well-armed civilians supported by militants”.
“The Meiteis are taking refuge at the DC office of Churachandpur district headquarters which has very loose security. None of the refugees have been evacuated so far,” it stated and added that 5,000 individuals from the neighborhood have turn out to be homeless.
The organisation additionally claimed that in Moreh city, virtually each Meitei home has been burned down and a few Meiteis are taking refuge in Myanmar and the remaining in an Assam Rifles camp at Khudengthabi.
The clashes broke out after the Kukis organised an indication in 10 hill districts of the state to protest towards the Meiteis’ demand.
So far, 23,000 individuals have been rescued from the violence-hit areas and moved to army garrisons and aid camps, officers stated.
