New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday thanked people of Gujarat after his party made significant inroads in the civic body polls by securing as many as 27 seats. While extending gratitude, Kejriwal said that people of Gujarat have “rejected the centuries-old politics of Congress and chosen AAP as the main opposition party which proves that state now wants politics of development and work.

“The AAP has breached BJP’s citadel in Surat after it bagged 27 seats in the municipal corporation. I would like to thank the people of Gujarat from the bottom of my heart. The people of Surat have handed over the responsibility to the Aam Aadmi Party as the main opposition party and rejected the 125-year old Congress,” Kejriwal said.

In recently concluded Gujarat Civic Body Polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 93 of 120 seats in Surat while rest 27 wards were secured by AAP. The Congress, which had won 36 seats in previous local body polls, could not manage to win even a single seat from the city. Overall, the ruling BJP swept the civic elections with a majority in all six municipal corporations of the state.
