The Gujarat authorities purchased electricity worth ₹8,160 crore from Adani Power Limited between 2021 and 2022 at tariff charges revised upwards from ₹2.83 to ₹8.83 per unit, the State Legislative Assembly was knowledgeable on Saturday.

Responding to a query by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Hemant Ahir, State Energy Minister Kanu Desai stated that in 2021-22, the federal government purchased 11,596 million models of electricity from the corporate for ₹8,160 crore.

The cost was revised upwards month-on-month in the vary of ₹2.83-₹8.83 per unit, he stated.

In 2007, the State authorities had signed an settlement to buy energy from Adani Power Limited for 25 years at levelised tariff charges of ₹2.89 and ₹2.35 per unit, he stated.

The State authorities revised upwards the unit charges below its energy buy settlement from the corporate due to an increase in the price of imported coal, he stated.

Since the undertaking was coal-based, the stated energy firm was not producing power in full capability due to “unscheduled increase in the price of coal sourced from Indonesia after 2011”, Mr. Desai stated.

“Considering this, a high-powered committee was formed by the state government. The government vide resolution dated December 1, 2018 approved the increase in power purchase rates by accepting the recommendations of the committee, with a few amendments, as a policy decision,” he stated.

Accordingly, a supplementary settlement was signed with Adani Power on December 5, 2018, which was authorized by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission by means of an order dated April 12, 2019, he stated.

Further revision was made in 2021 as a result of enhance in worldwide coal costs, he stated.

Meanwhile, attributable to extreme hikes in costs of imported coal on the international stage, many of the imported coal-fired energy tasks on the nationwide stage shut down era, because the contract/supplemental settlement was not reasonably priced, he stated.

To keep away from the stated scenario and to satisfy the rising demand of all the nation, the central authorities ordered to run the imported coal-based energy undertaking at full capability below part 11 of the Electricity Act 2003 by order dated May 5, 2011, the Minister stated.

In order to satisfy the State’s energy demand from all out there sources, ample energy was procured from Adani Power (Mundra) below the precept of benefit order, he stated.
