Gurugram: Cyber gang dupes women of lakhs through matrimonial sites; 3 arrested

Gurugram police busted a cyber racket that allegedly duped women from completely different states after befriending them through matrimonial websites. We arrested three cybercrooks, police stated on Wednesday.

The accused have been recognized as Aman Kumar, 26, Rahul Singh, 28, and a 38-year-old Santosh Kumar – all residents of Delhi, he added.

A Nigerian nationwide who’s reportedly the kingpin of the gang is absconding and police are conducting raids to nab him, they stated.

The accused focused women on matrimonial websites posing themselves as potential grooms from overseas.

After befriending a lady posing as a international nationwide, a gang member would ask her to ship pricey reward gadgets, and different gang members would drive her to cough up cash within the title of tax and customized clearance posing as customized officers.

An FIR was lodged within the matter first when Shampa Pal, a local of Kolkata who lives in Chakkarpur space right here, filed a grievance on February 9 alleging she was duped of over Rs 13 lakh.

“I got in touch with a man through Instagram, who claimed to be a doctor in the UK. Soon after he shared his WhatsApp number also,” Pal stated in her grievance, in response to police.

At one level throughout their friendship, the person requested Pal to ship her some gold and 20,000 British kilos.

On January 30, she acquired a name from a lady who stated she was calling from a courier firm.

“She instructed me that to get the parcel of gold and kilos I have to pay tax and she or he shared a Union Bank account quantity to switch cash.

“The first time, I transferred Rs 55,000, then subsequently Rs 3,27,920, Rs 1,85,000, Rs 3,39,287, and Rs 3 lakh. After this, she again called me for Rs 7,26,000 more,” Pal wrote.

Following her grievance, an FIR was registered at Cyber Crime, East, Police Station on February 9 and the alleged frauds have been arrested.

“We are conducting raids to nab other members of this gang. We are questioning the accused and hope many cases will be solved during the interrogation,” stated Priyanshu Dewan, ACP, Cyber.
