Making friendship with Nigerian nationals on social media – Instagram- induced a loss of Rs 1.80 crore to a woman in Gurugram. City police on Tuesday mentioned that two Nigerian allegedly duped a woman for Rs 1.80 crore on a number of pretexts after befriending her by means of Instagram. Police arrested two Nigerial nationals for defrauding the woman.

According to police, the sufferer was an area woman who reported the matter on April 10 at Manesar Police Station.

The sufferer, in her criticism, mentioned she was cheated of 1.80 crore by a person who she had met on Instagram final yr. The man had launched himself as a British Airways pilot.

“The accused talked to me regularly. One day last year he said he was sending a gift parcel for me which contained an iPhone, jewelry, and other items. Later, on December 6, a man called me saying a parcel had arrived in my name and I have to pay Rs 35,000 in tax to get it,” the woman mentioned in her criticism, in line with police.

The sufferer deposited the cash in a checking account shared by the person, however was stored being requested for extra money by his so referred to as pal, who demanded it in identify of completely different charges reminiscent of ‘United nationwide anti terrorist clearance’ or some penalty, police mentioned.

By the time she realised it was a fraud, she had paid Rs 1.80 crore to the person, police mentioned. After her criticism, a staff of Cyber Crime investigated the matter and arrested two males from Delhi’s Nihal Vihar Phase-2 space on Monday. 

The accused have been recognized as Nigerian nationals Ebuka Felixi and Chukwaka Ewere who have been residing within the outer Delhi space from the place they have been arrested.

A checkbook, 16 financial institution passbooks, 25 ATM playing cards, seven cell phones with as many SIM playing cards, one laptop computer, one scooter, and Rs 10,000 money discovered of their possession have been seized by police.

Both have been produced in a metropolis courtroom and have been taken on a four-day police remand.

“The two are also the members of the same gang which was busted by police on May 11. We have taken them on police remand and are questioning them,” mentioned Varun Dahiya, ACP, Crime.
