New Delhi: In view of COVID-19, the federal government has accepted the request of stakeholders to give jewellers some extra time to get ready for implementation and resolve points. Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery is ready to begin from June 15, 2021 which was earlier anticipated to be applied from June 1.

A committee was shaped to guarantee correct coordination and resolve the implementation points. Pramod Tewari DG (BIS) can be the convener of Committee. Piyush Goyal, Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Railways and Commerce & Industry reviewed the progress made within the implementation of necessary Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery in India. The assembly was attended by varied associations of Bullion commerce, Hallmarking facilities, Jewellers from throughout the nation, commerce and export our bodies of Gold enterprise apart from officers of Department of Consumer Affairs and BIS.

Speaking on the event, Goyal mentioned that India will need to have the world’s finest requirements in Gold Jewellery. He mentioned that Customers should get Hallmark licensed Gold at Earliest all throughout the nation with none additional delay.

Under Hallmarking scheme of Bureau of Indian Standards, Jewellers are registered for promoting hallmarked jewelry and recognise testing and Hallmarking centres. BIS (Hallmarking) Regulations, have been applied w.e.f. 14.06.2018. Hallmarking will allow Consumers/Jewellery patrons to make a proper selection and save them from any pointless confusion whereas shopping for gold. At current, solely 30% of Indian Gold Jewellery is hallmarked.

Earlier, Quality management order for necessary hallmarking of Gold Jewellery/artefacts have been issued by the Government on 15thJan 2020, however the final date was prolonged to 1stJune 2021 to clear previous inventory of non-hallmarked jewelry.
