New Delhi: Expressing anguish over the dearth of any uniform coverage in Maharashtra over designated parking areas for automobiles, the Bombay High Court has mentioned that authorities should not permit residents to personal a number of private automobiles in the event that they did not have ample parking area.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni mentioned on Thursday that authorities “should not allow families owning only one flat to have four or five cars if they do not have sufficient parking space” out there of their respective housing societies.
The bench was listening to a public curiosity litigation (PIL) filed by a Navi Mumbai resident and activist Sandeep Thakur, difficult a authorities notification that amended the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations Rules, allowing builders to scale back automobile parking area.
Thakur mentioned in his plea that builders don’t present adequate parking areas in new highrises, thereby forcing residents to park exterior the premises of the housing society.
“Reduction in the purchase of new cars is needed. You can’t permit one family to have four to five vehicles just because they can afford it. You should cross-check if they have parking spaces or not,” the excessive courtroom mentioned.
The HC questioned the principles challenged within the PIL and mentioned there can be “chaos if a proper policy on vehicle parking is not formulated”.
“All roads are flooded with vehicles and everywhere, 30 per cent space of roads is taken away by parking on both sides. It is a common phenomenon,” it mentioned.
