IIM-Bangalore forays into undergraduate courses with online BBA programme

Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) has launched a first-of-its-kind, online BBA programme in Digital Business Entrepreneurship (DBE) in a bid to make its courses extra accessible and reasonably priced. Classes for the primary batch will start in September 2024. 

IIM-B is the primary IIM to supply a UG course.

The course may have three focus areas – Digital expertise and enterprise, Entrepreneurship, and Management. While the programme has been designed for 3 years with 45 credit in annually, going by the National Education Policy (NEP), it should even have versatile exits on the one-year and two-year marks.

While the primary 12 months is targeted on administration, the curriculum for the second and third 12 months might be centred round entrepreneurship.

“All the classes will be asynchronised (pre-recorded content) to make it more flexible for people who are pursuing this as a second degree,” stated Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIM-B. Unlike many different online courses already out there, IIM-B plans to make their course extra interactive. Prof. Krishnan stated that, regardless of the course’s nature, content material might be created in an enticing and interactive format for college students. 

“We are figuring out ways to introduce gaming, simulation and other practical tools into the course. We will also use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify students who have missed classes and contact them.”

The institute plans to conduct exams for the course with bodily proctors in centres throughout India.  

Suresh Bhagavatula, director of the BBA, DBE programme, stated, “There will be two live sessions per course along with tutoring sessions, and open office hours for students to interact with faculty members in an online format. We will engage students in groups for problem-solving and such other projects.”

The first batch will comprise 1,000 college students chosen by way of an entrance examination for which the dates might be introduced shortly. The course might be open to Indian college students who’ve scored 60% of their II PUC or class 12. Application types for the course might be out there from June 15. The price for the course is ₹4.5 lakh (for 3 years). 

Speaking in regards to the thought behind the course, Prof. Krishnan stated, “If you compare the priorities of 50 years ago, when it was just core technical education, engineering and management, now we are looking at how to create people at the undergraduate level who have a broader perspective and, at the same time, also have skills which can enable them to be valuable, and contribute to the overall economy.” 

While there might be no campus recruitment for the online programme, Prof. Krishnan stated that IIM-B will publicise the programme extensively to make sure that it’s seen to recruiters.
