In Kashmir’s Anantnag, Battle Of Stalwarts As Mehbooba Mufti Challenges Ghulam Nabi Azad In Lok Sabha Polls | India News


NEW DELHI: Per week after addressing the general public from the mega rally of the INDIA bloc in Delhi, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has now set the stage for one more rift between the opposition alliance. The Congress, National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party are but to achieve a seat-sharing deal in Jammu and Kashmir. Amid the delays, Mufti introduced the names of three candidates for the Lok Sabha polls.

Mufti is about to contest the final elections from Kashmir’s Anantnag-Rajouri constituency. Mufti is poised for a political face-off in opposition to Ghulam Nabi Azad, chief of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), from the seat. Meanwhile, Azad is contesting the Lok Sabha elections for the primary time since his defeat within the 2014 basic elections from the Udhampur seat. Other candidates vying for the Anantnag seat are Gujjar chief Mian Altaf Ahmad from the National Conference and the Apni Party’s Zaffar Iqbal Manhas.  

As per the announcement made by the PDP on Sunday, Waheed Parra will contest from the Srinagar seat, whereas former Rajya Sabha member Mir Fayaz will contest from the Baramulla seat.  

Warming up the pitch for her bid within the upcoming election, Mehbooba Mufti slammed the BJP on the law-and-order state of affairs within the valley. She requested why Section 144 had been imposed in Ladakh if the BJP claimed that every thing was regular. She additional stated that all through her actions within the Jammu and Kashmir area over the previous 5 years, she has persistently represented the issues of the folks. The social gathering’s manifesto and appeals are geared toward addressing the general public’s points in Parliament, added Mufti.

The Lok Sabha elections within the Union Territory are scheduled to happen in 5 phases: April 19 (Udhampur), April 26 (Jammu), May 7 (Anantnag-Rajouri), May 13 (Srinagar), and May 20 (Baramulla). Vote counting will start on June 4th.
