England had been 215 for eight at tea on the opening day of the first Test in opposition to India on Thursday.

England captain Ben Stokes received the toss and opted to bat first.

Stokes (43 batting) and Mark Wood had been batting on 43 and seven respectively at the break.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja bagged three wickets, whereas there have been two wickets apiece for Axar Patel and R. Ashwin.

Earlier, Madhya Pradesh prolific batter Rajat Patidar was named as a substitute for Virat Kohli for the primary two Tests
