India plans to mandate the use of 1% of sustainable aviation gas (SAF) for home airways by 2025, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri mentioned on May 19, in a bid to reduce emissions from the sector.
Unlike the United States and the European Union, India doesn’t have insurance policies governing sustainable aviation gas but. The European Commission SAF mandate is anticipated to begin in 2025 with a minimal quantity of SAF at 2%.
Mr. Puri mentioned for jet gas combined with 1% SAF, about 140 million litres of biofuels are wanted. The mandate for SAF might rise to 4-5% if extra volumes of biofuels can be found, he added.
An Indian panel had urged for the rollout of 1% SAF within the nation by 2025.
