India fastest to administer 14 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine

India has administered 14 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine in simply 99 days, the fastest on the planet, the Health Ministry stated on Saturday. More than 24 lakh vaccine doses have been administered on Saturday until 8 pm, the ministry stated.

The cumulative quantity of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered within the nation stands at 14,08,02,794, in accordance to a provisional report at 8 pm.

“India became the fastest country to administer 14 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine in just 99 days,” the ministry stated.

The beneficiaries embrace 92,89,621 healthcare staff (HCWs) who’ve taken the first dose and 59,94,401 HCWs who’ve taken the 2nd dose, 1,19,42,233 frontline staff (FLWs) who have gotten the primary dose, and 62,77,797 FLWs the second dose.

As many as 4,76,41,992 folks aged between 45-plus and 60 have gotten the primary dose and 23,22,480 within the age group obtained the second dose.

As many as 4,96,32,245 beneficiaries aged above 60 years have gotten the primary dose and 77,02,025 the second dose, the ministry stated.

On Saturday, the 99th day of the nationwide vaccination drive, a complete of 24,22,989 vaccine doses got until 8 pm — 15,69,631 beneficiaries for the primary dose and eight,53,358 for the second dose.

Phase-I of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive was launched on January 16, prioritizing safety for healthcare staff and frontline staff. The phase-II was initiated from March 1, specializing in defending most susceptible i.e. all folks above 45 years of age.

Everyone above 18 years of age shall be eligible to get vaccinated in opposition to COVID-19 from May 1, the central authorities stated on Monday because it liberalised the vaccination drive to permit states, personal hospitals and industrial institutions to procure the doses immediately from producers.
