The first two Tests of India vs England Test series will be played without spectators at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. A top official of the host association TNCA told news agency PTI on Friday.

According to Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) secretary RS Ramaswamy, the first two Test matches will be played without spectators as per the instructions of the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) in view of the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the nation.
“Yes…crowd will not be allowed for the two Test matches as a preventive measure in view of the virus situation,” he told PTI.Â
According to the circular reportedly issued by BCCI, given the current circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian cricket board has decided not to take any risk along with the safety of the players during the India-England Test series.
According to this, as a precautionary step as per the BCCI directive, the first two Tests will be played from 5 to 17 February without any spectators at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Both India and England are expected to reach Chennai by January 27, after which their Covid-19 Test will have to be done before entering the bio-secure bubble.

The central government had recently announced that outdoor sports activities could be conducted with 50 per cent audience following standard operating procedures (SOPs). The India vs England first Test match will begin on February 5.
