India’s power consumption rises 10% in Apr-Feb to 1375 billion units, surpasses full fiscal energy supplies year ago

India’s power consumption surged 10% to 1375.57 billion models (BU) throughout April-February this fiscal year and has already surpassed the extent of electrical energy equipped in whole 2021-22.

The authorities information confirmed that power consumption in April-February 2021-22 was 1245.54 BU.

In whole fiscal year 2021-22, power consumption was 1374.02 BU, which is lower than 1375.57 BU recorded throughout April 2022 to February 2023 interval.

Experts say power consumption is predicted to develop in double digits in the approaching months in view of forecasts of unprecedented excessive demand, particularly in summer season.

The power Ministry has estimated peak power demand in the nation at 229 GW throughout April this year, which is larger than 215.88 GW recorded in the identical month a year ago.

The Ministry has taken many steps to meet excessive power demand and likewise requested State utilities to not go for power cuts or load shedding.

The Ministry has additionally requested all imported coal-based power crops to run on full capability from March 16, 2023, to June 15, 2023.

Besides, it has requested different thermal power mills to import coal for mixing with home dry gasoline.

Experts say larger financial actions would increase business and industrial demand in the approaching months.

Besides, they opined that scorching warmth throughout summer season would end result in larger consumption of power for working air conditioners and different cooling home equipment.

They are of the view that it could be a problem to meet unprecedented excessive demand of electrical energy in India April onwards.
